Revision as of 02:07, 23 October 2024
there are several stores in the area selling hardware in a pinch. unfortunately, none of them are really within walking distance of the space. if you need something quick for a project, here are some ideas for where to go:
RE-PC
- two locations: a closer one by stadium station (south of downtown, take the 1 line south towards angle lake), and a further one in tukwila (by southcenter mall)
- sells used tech and surplus, lots of specialized and consumer items, including a fair amount of retro hardware
- probably has the cable you need
- you can call them to ask them if they have something, seattle location (206) 623-9151 or tukwila location (206) 575-8737
Vetco Electronics
- sells all types of new shit, i'm told
- not in seattle
- on the 2 line, take the 542 to redmond technology or the 271 toward bellevue downtown and then take the 2 line to belred and walk
- can also take the 255 and transfer to the 249 at south kirkland park and ride
Best Buy
- sells most general consumer tech items
- closest dedicated tech store on this list
- in the northgate north shopping center, north of northeast northgate way and west of 5th ave NE
- all new, overpriced monopolism bs
- near northgate station (take the 1 line north towards lynwood) then walk, or take the 75 for a direct but slow ride
Fred Meyer
- has a surprisingly large selection of consumer electronics and knockoffs
- standard or slightly over retail prices, sometimes for sub-retail-quality products
- closest location by bus is greenwood, 45 bus goes door-to-door, take towards loyal heights and get off at 85th and 3rd
- aggressive security guards, be ready to show your receipt
Target
- same complex as best buy
- in the northgate north shopping center, north of northeast northgate way and west of 5th ave NE
- sells cheaper shit then best buy but some of it might not work
- less selection than best buy
- near northgate station (take the 1 line north towards lynwood) then walk, or take the 75 for a direct but slow ride
Guitar Center
- tied for closest store on this list, technically within walking distance if you're fast
- only hardware sold is audio/MIDI gear
- sometimes has some good used deals, but required to keep used items for a while before selling them
- near roosevelt station (take the 1 line north towards lynwood)
Goodwill
- central district location is the big one
- sells a lot of keyboards, dvd players, other used consumer hardware
- take the one line south towards angle lake, then transfer at international district/chinatown station to the 7 towards rainier beach, get off at rainier and king
UW Surplus
- tied for closest store on this list, technically within walking distance if you're fast
- only open for a few hours on tuesdays
- computer items tend to be sold in bulk online, but a few deals here and there to be found in person
- across the street from the u villiage shopping mall
- take the 31 or 32 bus towards seattle children's hospital
