Change name

want to change your name? me too! here's my log of doing it at the hackerspace and seeing how it goes.

freeipa

have an ipa admin run this on shelly or ds01:

ipa user-mod OLD_USERNAME --rename NEW_USERNAME

then go into the web ui and fix all the details you can self-service.

lol, lmao. matrix fucking SUCKS and you can't change your MXID (OLD_USERNAME:devhack.net) so either delete and recreate, or suffer :(

you can change your display name at least, matrix-auth.devhack.net

username doesn't update from idp, so you will need to have an admin change it (currently m)

you also can't do it to yourself if you are an admin! this software is awful. please please please let us migrate away 🥺

when you log in you will get a fresh clean new home directory, but your old one is still at the same place it was and you have full permissions on it. I copied mine over and will update how things go, but had issues with podman storage so watch out for that maybe.
